Nope. Too close to the birthday. I leave all politics behind to celebrate the fact that I made it through another year.

Good luck! I hope its a good crowd.

Unfortunately, Independence Day is the official start of the tourist season up here. We basically have nine weeks to make a living. Eight, if we didn't have Fly-In.

I do understand that folks want financial responsibility among our governmental leaders, and to crack down on government waste, and to reduce spending.

Having never been allowed to get active in such politics due to my profession, I often felt like a spectator as these things go on around me.

Since I have lived among peoples where their income taxes are double / triple our income tax rates; I find it hard to take folks very seriously when they complain about their income taxes stateside.

I do understand having money come out from your paycheck [seeing so much government waste, and programs that do no 'good'] would be upsetting. I understand that, from a distance.

Being a recipient of the Federal Budget, it would be hypocritical of me to complain of folks who drink from the government trough.

Though I do applaud folks who make the effort to get their voices heard.

It is how our government is supposed to function.

If I were up that way, I'd be there. We went to the Tea Party in Atlanta in April. Just worked out that way - it was the day before the Jimmy Buffett concert! But I'd certainly go to another to show my support. Someone needs to get the word out to our government and if it takes my big mouth and stong opinionated attitude, so be it.

My favorite minute of the year is the one right after the fireworks over Stonington Harbor, when the people are clapping, hooting and hollering, and the car horns are being honked in appreciation and the sound echoes up the granite ledges... that's where I'll be on the 4th.

Did you know that the Tea Parties are completely Republican backed? They won't allow speakers that aren't actively involved with them. I was extremely disappointed when I found this out as I was planning on attending one.
