My girlfriend and I will be visiting Maine (spending a few days in Boothbay Harbor and a few days in Bar harbor/ Acadia)

I was wondering first of all if anyone knows any specific lobster shacks. I am looking for the "cheap" places, the ones that arent fancy but are just lobsters right off the boat. The more serene and rural the better and away from tourists the better.

Also wondering if anyone has any advise on activites to do up there (hiking places, whale watching, anything)

Help would be appreciated!!

I don't know about the lobster shacks but you can catch a whale watching cruise out of Bar Harbor. They also have sea birds, seals and other aquatic life cruises as well as a lobster fishing boat trip where they haul in traps they dropped to see what was caught, very interesting trip. Most are about 2 hours each.

Near Boothbay, Shaw's is a great place to get a lobster. It's in New Harbor on the Pemaquid peninsula. You can sit outside and watch lobster boats come in while you try to keep the seagulls from eating your food.

Not too sure of anything in Boothbay Harbor or Bar Harbor. I know a couple places in Eastport but you probably won't go that far up. While you're roaming Boothbay just keep an eye out. Must be something, I just can't remember. There is a great place for clams on the dock in Castine. Take DW there every summer for an anniversarry "dinner".

If you are going to Bar Harbor in the summer, it's going to be kind of difficult to avoid tourists. I like a couple of lobster places in Trenton. You can't miss them. The only downside is that they are right near the main highway Rt. 3. I LOVE the mix of smells of the wood smoke, ocean, etc. at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound--just a few feet off the highway. Then cross the bridge to Thompson's Island and on the right is a tourist info place. I would try the schooner trip leaving from the dock in Bar Harbor. Check out the weather in advance so you won't be disappointed. May I suggest going to Northeast Harbor and taking the boat to Islesford. I know some other places but will hush now and give someone else a chance.

I was going to suggest Lunt's Lobster Pound, which is the one in Trenton I think you're referring to? (I can't remember the name of the other one..Gateway?maybe?)..

if you are going to boothbay harbor, then shott over to pemaquid, you can drive right to the pemaquid lighthouse,,,,you have a rugged coastline in front of you and waves crashing on the rocks,,, there's a place called the samoset in new harbor on the way, this is an awesome area, and not as touristy as bar harbour, you could also drive to south bristol, to christmas cove, theres a place called coveside, where you can eat lobsters on the deck, overlooking the harbor,,both south bristol, and pemaquid arent far at all from boothbay..

In Boothbay the place for lobster is the Lobster Dock. Lobstermen bring their catch directly to the dock at the Dock. Can't get any fresher than that.
The Lobster Dock, Boothbay Harbor, Maine - Waterfront Restaurant directly on the Harbor

In Bar Harbor I don't remember any genuine lobster shacks but be sure to have some ice cream at Ben & Bill's. Homemade and alot of interesting flavors.

In Boothbay the lobsterman's co-op is a great place and ditto for the trenton bridge lobster pound mentioned above.
