Can I get a new ATV reg and plates somewhere, not online but in person?

You register them at your local town office. They don't do plates any more, you get a number decal which you attach directly to the ATV. For a while, they were using plates, and some of us have kept them, and put the new registration stickers on them. Others have made their own "license plates" to put the reg sticker on.

Kudos to you for attempting to follow the law and register your machine. I live on a dirt road in southern ME that intersects some woods trails (posted by the way) and many of the machines that we see trespassing or worse, were not registered. Makes it hard to differentiate the conscientious operators from the rogues and enforce a little etiquette.

I'm from out of state. I want a Maine atv reg so I can vacation there this summer and bring my own 4-wheeler, it's safer than renting one. That's why I was thinking of just stop somewhere, pay the $69 and get it. Someone told me Kittery Trading Post but they only do renewals now.

With all of the sprawl particularly in southern ME it is getting difficult to find places to ride. Especially for younger people that can't truck their machines to areas they can still ride.

That's true. And it becomes a dilemma when more and more property is posted. I live on a small fragile pond and the unregulated antics of some atv operators have resulted in a lot of property damage, unfortunately some damage was intentional.

I see a lot of teenagers/young adults out loose - teens without supervision - who do major damage - brainless... Our son has one that he rides around and around our property, but is well-aware that the crusty ole poop is watching out the picture window, and she's prepared to repossess the keys at the slightest infraction . He is responsible enough to go out on trails on our hunting property with us, and he knows enough not to hot-dog, lest he loses it for the rest of the summer.

I only wish the adults who ruin it for others by tearing up lands that owners subsequently post would be as responsible as my 12 year old.

We register ours at our town office.
