What do you think are the ethical or philosophical outcomes from enforcing this bill

It would seem any bill that ended fraud in the welfare system would be one that I would support. Please tell me it's more complicated than that!

State Leg website: Summary LD 168 (SP 54)"An Act To Provide Complimentary Hunting and Fishing Licenses to Resident Disabled Veterans Who Served in Support Units Outside of Combat Zones"Sponsored by Senator Debra Plowman

Doesn't seem to be about welfare at all.

I think the OP was referring to one of the following- LDs 254 and 321

An Act To Enact a 5-point Welfare Reform Program Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Quote:
LD 254, sponsored by Rep. Richard Cebra, R-Naples, proposes a five-point reform of welfare programs. It would require a 90-day residency in Maine for general assistance, provide a new-hire tax credit for employers who hire welfare recipients, increase the required hours of participation in Maine’s welfare-to-work program, adjust benefits to reflect earned income and impose a lifetime cap of 60 months on TANF benefits.

LD 321, Page 1 - 121th Legislature, FIRST REGULAR Session
Quote:
LD 321, sponsored by Rep. Gary Knight, R-Livermore Falls, included only the 90-day residency requirement for general assistance.

I don't see anything in that bill that would prevent fraud any more so than the laws and regulations that are already in place. The only part of it that I think might have a positive impact would be the credit to businesses that hire welfare recipients. The other parts, IMO, would only serve as further barriers to those trying to get off of welfare.

Default to end welfare fraud

the bill will set a five year lifetime limit, and the focus is on prevention of the fraud by verification of income and residence, and the collaboration with IRS, department of labor and social security to verify that someone is who they say and are in deed needy
