Any companies in Maine with good 401k plans? I am looking to change jobs and one of my criteria is a job in Portland area that has a 401K plan I can start contributing to as soon as start the job. Don't care so much about the pay being so stellar as the ability to set dollars aside for retirement in a tax-deferred account. I would prefer a plan that I can contribute up to 50% of my pay to also.

Sorry I can't help you.

I finished my career with a company that has a 20-year pension, and I retired at 42. Now my wife is working on her 20-year pension.

I really have very little knowledge on who offers good 401(k)s.

Since you are keen on investing, have you considered apartment buildings? I collected them, and did fairly well.

Default Ok

Real estate works out in cycles. Too much heavy lifting on that though. I like handling stuff electronically instead of contracts, handshakes and time tables. Sure, there is money in cash-flowing locations, but now is not exactly peachy to get a good return on real estate for a newbie.

Enjoy what you do for income. I enjoy my attempts at financial freedom with investing in stocks, bonds and options.

I wish you luck in your gambling.

Some of us need investments that can support us. Mine do.

Default 401k

I have met some in the service industry that have plans that allow up to 50%. My old plan use to allow 30%. The company matched I think maybe up to the first 4% dollar for dollar. I imagine the market will crash eventually this year. Kind of count on it. Will be a great buying opportunity for REITs, consumer sector, energy and builder stocks. That is why I am exploring shorting the market. I dare not tell my boss that though as one of their major clients is the stock I am thinking about shorting.
