To them, chicken has always come in that bright yellow package with cellophane wrapped around it. We have a garden religiously every year (I just enjoyed some green beans from it today). It may be somewhat of a pain to weed, but it's saved us a lot of $$$, and is far healthier
maine use to be a powerhouse poultry grower/processor

belfast use to be the chicken capitol of maine???(penobscot, halifax)

you can still see the big old metal chicken barns in that area

i agree, most would have a hard time preparing a chicken,,

if necessary i could do it along with a hog, beef critter, lamb, deer or moose..

Interesting map where you can compare how states are faring. Click on each of the top boxes to see unemployment, budget deficits and foreclosures. Then just move the mouse to Maine or whatever state you want to look at.

Where does your state rank? - CNNMoney.com

That is interesting.

For Unemployment Maine looks to be about middle. OR, NV, CA, MI are all much worse. The best is WY, ND, SD, NE

Maine's state budget looks great compared to CA, FL, GA, and IL.

Maine's Foreclosures don't look bad at all when compared to FL and NV.

amazing how different it can be isn't it?

I can't help but think about the three families moving to little old Calais, Maine... with jobs all lined up, after all the talk I've "heard" on here for the last two years about NO jobs in Washington County. Interesting.

What's up with RI? The employment picture looks pretty bleak according to that map.

Yes, that is surprising. You would think it would be close to the rest of New England.

I wonder what the criteria for employment type is considered with this?
Does it count part-time or contingent employment? I wonder because frankly, I'd like to see the breakdown to see if "underemployment" is counted. I think having the info would provide a clearer picture.

Wellllll...I have to say one thing then I'll shut up.

Pharmaceutical companies have a reputation far and wide for blowing incredible wads of cash in order to incent sales. I have heard they've culled it back some, but all over the US, there are many chunky office workers because the local "rep" would drop off gourmet "goodies" and I don't mean the cheapies.

I have personally seen:

Various "all-expense paid" trips to "vacation" spots (including Las Vegas casinos) for docs, nurses, etc...
Catered lunches (and not the local Applebees either)
Plethoras of pens, paper pads, hand soaps in cute fire-hydrant shaped bottles, and other assorted and vast office clutter, coffee cups, the list goes on and on...including a handmade solid chocolate piece in the shape of an asthma inhaler.

I will say 'tho, I support the medication samples as many patients have no insurance and cannot afford perscriptions.

That said, I do know a person who gave up a very lucrative salary because his "moral compass" would no longer allow for him to work in drug company sales.

Okay, I'm done.

I always wondered about the limits of the "advertising budget" for pharmaceuticals. I have never gone to my doctor's office and not seen the drug salesman with his satchel of goodies. Meanwhile the office is cluttered with notepads, pen holders, clipboards, you name it, all proclaiming the latest new product du jour. And that's in addition to all the print and tv ads.
It's no wonder drugs cost so much.
