Saw a thread on here from someone else who was wondering which towns in Maine had good Christmas celebrations and it made me curious as to what, if anything, they do in Eastport around Christmastime?

I *love* Christmastime! I'm hopin' they do something special to celebrate! <<<as she jumps up and down and claps>>>

Hoping that we'll be there by Christmas '08......<<<sigh>>> (if our house sells by then)

*tap*

The earliest Christmas will be there is probably 2013.

I don't know if they do anything in Eastport that is out of the ordinary.
( but of course I don't live in Eastport)

Calais has a tree lighting and a christmas Parade. The rest of the small towns surrounding the area, including mine simple decorate our homes and property and many people pack of the family for an evening drive around to see the lights. Very simple but enjoyable.

hmmmm....no biggie.....was just wondering if they did anything out of the ordinary, but would be nice just to drive around and look at the lights...

I heard they drop either a sardine or a salmon on New Year's Eve -- that sounds like it would be fun! Hope we're there by then!

We have the festival of lights, which has a whole range of activities including the boat lighting contest (which has been kind of slack the last few years). The chamber gives out lots of useful prizes for best decorating home and business. The library has a visit from Santa, gifts for children, cookies, hot chocolate, cider. The gallery has a big pre-Christmas sale where the prices drop drastically and there is usually hot mulled cider often with a bit of rum. there is caroling and a parade, the usual stuff. The sardine drop on New Years shows up on google searches. Usually the best show in town is Heron Weston's Eastport Elementary School concert. Every class does a number and the musical groups each do one also. It really is wonderful entertainment. It's a nice Christmas.
