My husband and I have decided to move to Maine. Any suggestions on a good town to raise a family. We are both 30 years old and we have 4 children, ages 8, 6, 4, and 4 months. We want to move to someplace that has good schools. I have been looking at the town Limerick. Does anyone here live in this town? Any suggestions will be great.

My wife and I just moved to Brewer in July from Pennsylvania. We are moving AGAIN to a small town called Pittsfield. Since our kids are grown, schools are not an issue for us but from what we have heard, the Bangor area has really good schools and Orono's (which is a perfect little town to raise kids in our opinion) supposedly has a great school district. This is just what we have heard since our arrival.

By the way, we have only one regret about moving here and that is we should have done it sooner. The state is beautiful and the people are so down to earth and friendly.

Good luck
Lynn and Russ

I just moved to Old Town (right outside of Orono) and love it. I am a grad student attending the University and so far its great. We looked in Bangor and Orono but found the best deal and nicest place in Old Town. Good luck!

Limerick is a very small town with a large summer population. The summer people are quite wealthy. Locals do a lot of seasonal work for the summer people.

Take a look at Lincoln and the surrounding area. Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!.

What do want around you? Is access to shopping or recreational opportunities important? What size town?

I am partial to Bangor for raising kids -- good schools, lots of things to do there.

What price range for a house are you looking at? That will determine to a large extent where you will want to look. Bangor is IMO ridiculously low for housing prices. Southern Maine or anywhere on the coast for that matter will likely be more.

Are you independently wealthy, or will you need to work for a living. This will make a HUGE difference as if you need to find jobs, then you will want to live near where population and businesses are located.

My main wants are good schools, low crime, friendly neighbors, and also a good job for my hubby. He currently is a truck driver. Also i have another question, we currently pay $3006.00 for taxes on an 1/4 acre, around $250 a year for water, $1300.00 a year for auto insurance, $100 in winter, $200 a month in summer for electric and we also pay for oil as our main heating source. Are therse about the same prices in bangor area?
