Lines drawn in beverage tax showdown | Portland Press Herald (http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=189252&ac=PHnws - broken link)

Article in the press herald about a group trying to have a people's veto of the recent tax increase passed by augusta. Tax increase effects beer, wine, soda, and adds 1.3% to current health insurance rates. This package was passed by democrats in a late night meeting at the last minute with little to now input by the general public.

Fed Up With Taxes - Registration

The out of control spending in augusta needs to stop. This is a real chance for Maine people to tell them NO.

TRUE! TRUE!

I always hear people say that we need to get rid of the payroll tax and make everyone write the goverment a check on a quaterly basis. I guess the idea is when people actually had to sit down and write that check they would see how much of their money the goverment is spending.

The reality there is that a large number of people would not write the check! The government knows this thus the payroll robbing.

Well each individual fills out a form to determine how much should come out of their paychecks.

If you do not want them to take out so much, then change your 'with-holding' rate.

Witholding is an interest free loan the government forces citizens to participate in. How would they like it if I decide to exempt myself completely from witholding. It's robbery pure and simple. The only reason it exists is because the government knows it cannot trust it's citizens to pay taxes without being forced to do so.

i dont have a problem with paying taxes.the problem i have is how they spend it.why should i foot the bill for some senator to have a $1500 lunch with his golf buddys.
or pay for his gas or give him a car to drive.its a job just like every other american has .no one pays for my lunch or my gas or my truck.
they should be paying their own way not the american public.
if they dont want the job then dont run for office.if they do want the job then live with in their means no more expence acc no more fancy cars with free fuel.just do the job.
