Unless you're reclusive and enjoy 'Life Below Zero' in northern ME, there are plenty of remote areas of southern Maine where winters are less severe.

As an RN you should have no trouble finding work. Can't speak to NMMC in Ft Kent; and Cary in Caribou is better than nothing. Overall, the best medical care in the state's in Portland.

My 96 y/o mother had hip surgery last year at the hospital in Presque Isle. She survived the surgery, but not the 'care' she received there. they kept moving her around, from ICU (the only available space) where she could receive no visitors to the 2nd floor and back down again, several times - pretty rough treatment for an old woman trying to recover from surgery. She died there several days later.

If you decide to head to northern ME, do yourself a favor and rent for a year or two.
Thank you, that is what I was looking for - perceptions and opinions about the various hospitals from people with first-hand experience. I am sorry for the loss of your mother caused by poor treatment.
