Thank You Maine Writer.....the trillium are beautiful.....I do notice that the ones I saw the other day were much richer darker red. I love the little bluets! They make me smile. I think I recognize witch hazel as well (remember in the little lulu comics "that awful witch hazel".

I now realize that the trillium were by MW and the others by 7th! Thank YOu both.

Default Lupine?

My wife and I were travelling to Portland, Maine, from our home in Massachusetts going up the Maine Turnpike. We stopped at the first rest area in Maine to water the dogs, and these flowers were growing along the fringes. I'm sure we can all agree on the daisies being daisies. But the purplish-blue flowers that look like lupines... what say you? I say lupine but my wife adamantly disagrees. She hails from Montana and is accustom to seeing "Mountain Lupine," so perhaps there are some differences between the two variations. I'd be curioius to get the opinion of some old life-long residence of Maine on this one. Vindicate me! LOL

Yup, that's definitely lupine -- at least the kind we have in New England. Your wife must be used to a different variety.

Do Irises grow wild in Maine?

Here are my babies.

It's been an exceptionally good season for Ladyslippers! They popping up all over the Ell Pond area...even right smack in the middle of the trails!
