There's also a prophylactic is being tested as well. Take it and have protection for 9 months. https://www.newscentermaine.com/arti...2-12e707d40dd8

I want to get in one of the trials.

Sadly, I haven't moved to Maine yet, but if I was up there, I'd be looking at that too! You want to do some due diligence, as clinical trials are not without risk, but that said, Lyme disease is not without risk either!

P.S. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are somewhat infamous for their high Lyme disease rates. The Phase III trials will include residents of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, as the high disease rates should make it easier to assess the vaccine's efficacy there.

I haven't ruled out another pregnancy, so I'm not eligible, unfortunately. But I did have my husband reach out to Northern Light. They're a site for the Valneva trial, I think.

For your husband then - this is the Phase III trial - which means that it's already made it through Phase I&II while showing promising safety and efficacy. If you're going to go into a clinical trial, Phase III has the lowest risk of the three.

Update on the Pfizer / Valneva lyme vaccine, still looks good. Sounds like 2025/2026 for availability.

I guess I am lucky I moved to Tennessee. Until I saw this thread and looked up a map of Lyme disease, I had no clue how prolific it was in New England, and clear down to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee.

Maine is a state I have never visited, so I am anxious to see it someday now that I am retired. I guess I will be staying on pavement.

Here is hoping the vaccine is highly effective. Lyme disease is terrible. It is curable though, isn't it?

No thanks. I'd rather take my chances.

It's curable with the antibiotic doxycycline IF you catch it in the early stage.

This is why some doctors recommend (and I agree) taking doxycycline immediately if you know you've been bitten by a tick, even before getting test results. I say I agree because when I was bitten by a tick my doctor's office waited 3 weeks before telling me I tested positive, pushing me into the next higher risk category due to delayed treatment. I was very lucky and was cured. If this were to happen again I would take the antibiotic immediately.
