French drug manufacturer Valneva has announced that they’ve successfully completed their first-ever human trial of a vaccine against Lyme disease. The vaccine, which is reportedly up to 96% effective, might soon be available in the UK and US at a “reasonably low” price.

Yes.

It seems that every year we see repeated threads about people who are paranoid about Lyme disease. If there will soon be a vaccine that is 96% effective, I was just thinking that it might be helpful for people.

As somebody who has contracted Lyme twice already, I cannot wait for the vaccine.

The last one was found to cause horrible side effects in people who already had Lyme. I have a friend who is now a quadriplegic after taking it. And the test for Lyme is ony 40% accurate.

Don’t hold your breath. Do we have a malaria vaccine?

So I looked for information on the last 2 known vaccines due to your input. There is no reported paralysis from either vaccine. I'd be curious as to why this is? There are several scientific papers that state all of the issues of the vaccines, but nothing about quadriplegia. Do you have any more insight to this matter?

As for tests only being 40% accurate, that is not really correct. Early tests show less accuracy, but the longer the disease is in one's system, the more accurate the test becomes. This is how it works for many diseases when being tested. The trick with Lyme is understanding the symptoms, and being able to separate them from other outside causes.

Me too! Though I am not clear when it will actually be available. It sounds like they have further trial phases to go. STAT News is usually pretty good for the drug industry. They seem to be indicating it's still a few years off, and also mention a different approach, not exactly a vaccine, a "Lyme pre-exposure prophylaxis", coming out of UMass, that also looks to be a few years off.

yep, mandate your YEARLY Lyme vaccine. I don't live in Maine but the Mountains of PA. LOT of deer here and ticks as well. SWAT sitting in my Sunroom with ticks crawling up my legs. Husband has had them crawling on this ears in our living room.

As you said, if people want to run out and get their yearly vaccination, fine with me. I will PASS, and that was the last problem with the Lyme vaccine for humans; not enough people wanted to get it.
