Camden is a must if you are heading for the Midcoast. If you are up for a hike......Mt Battie or Maidens Cliff. There is a chairlift at Camden's snowbowl. There is so much to see in Camden.

This fall should be spectacular for those who venture out.

Acadia (MDI), Camden and surrounding area, Blue Hill, Bucksport, (Ellsworth of course) are my personal favorites close to me, but there are SO MANY beautiful places in Maine... Rt. 2 through Western Maine, the Rangeley region, Katahdin and Baxter State Park come to mind as well... SO MANY beautiful places to view and experience, scenic drives throughout the state... fall foliage reflections on 1000+ lakes and ponds... prepare to be awestruck.

I definitely recommend Mt. Battie. I went up last mid-October and it was awesome. You can drive right to the summit (so it's very time-conscious). I'd also recommend visiting the Pemaquid Lighthouse, Penobscot Observatory, and of course Acadia National Park. It was my first time in Maine (Oct 17-21) and as Mainegrl pointed out, I was awestruck.

Edit: Just make sure you're dressed for the weather! It was a bit colder than I expected (great for me, I love cold. Not so much for the wife).

Fall is my favorite time. When I was a tourist, I only came here in the summer. But now that I live here, my favorite is Fall followed by winter. Remember that Bar Harbor is just one of the spots on the. island. There is lots more to see now beyond BH, and especially now that you have to pay for parking in BH(unless you live here).

Leaves change in October.
