I just reread the old thread that I started "ok, where are the black flies" and I was cracking up. I swear I think it scared off a few people from moving to Maine. LOL

Update:
I received ONE bite from the dreaded fly last year. All that fretting for one bite.

Funny!

I live in New Jersey and some of the state parks that charge admission along the coastline have signs saying and I quote: No refunds for greenhead attacks. They are misrible here and they even follow you in your car.

I have not seen one black fly all day. In fact, I don't expect to see any all week.

Do like I do. Last summer I took a bottle of Allens along. They love it. Happiest critters I saw in months.

They are a pain like you wouldn't believe. Nearer the city the less you get but.. they bite and they get in your hair. It's one of the reasons I wanted to leave Maine when I was younger, but... the upside is if you aren't afraid of bug spray or fly dope or skin so soft, it usually helps ward them off. Maine is home to me and sometimes you have to make a sacrifice for something good. Maine is awesome. People are friendliest I have ever seen, the land is absolutely beautiful. People are more relaxed and laid back and warm hearts. I love Maine and the people there and if it means gettin bit by a few black flies, .... I'll take it! Hope that helps.
