There is a guy down in Winterport who is running out of places to put snow. He is offering it free for the taking. He has it in two colors; "arctic white" and "spring brown".

It's that spring brown color that you see on cars. Maine has a lot of tan cars because it doesn't show up as much. It's a mixture of sand, salt, mud and rust. It hardens to an adobe-like material. Now we know that adobe buildings last for thousands of years and some Mainers hope that if they don't wash this material off that thier old pickup will last a while longer too. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Hey msina, I found out I have deep Maine roots. My great-great grandmother, Lavina Trask, was born in Orient (Aroostook County) in 1850!!! I think I may qualify as a true Mainer, as her father was born in Maine in 1795. I know this has nothing to do with the color on the cars, but I got excited when you mentioned the name Trask. My Trasks moved to Minnesota in 1856 and became flatlanders, then they moved to Canada and became northern flatlanders.

I had an old Jeep 1 ton pick-up years ago that I think I washed once in the years I owned it. In the wintertime when it would turn a nice shade of grayish brown, if somebody asked why I didn't wash it, my reply was that it was an antique and after watching the Antiques Roadshow I knew better than to scrub the patina off of an antique because it lowered the value. I got called a smart *** a lot.

Lavina is an old Miane name
The color on the cars is just "Maine Camouflage".

Yes...your car will be filthy....your entry way to your home will need constant cleaning, you will get salt and dirt on your clothes if your not carfull....don't rub up against your car...during spring and when all those warm days with temps in the upper 30's to mid 40's come, the roads will be wet...you will go through gallons of washer fluid for your car...Make sure you have winter mats for the floors of your car.

msina I'm thinking you and star could get together in front of that camera at a predetermined time, we'll all be watching, and you two could do the YMCA I bet I can get the Eastport crew to do the same in front of Mary's camera at Spinnaker this summer What'd ya think?

I don't mind that the car gets dirty, and I'm not one to feel like the first nice day I need to run out and wash it.....but I also am the type who will go out of my way for a nice deep puddle in the Jeep. What I don't like though is trying to get in and out of the Jeeps or van without getting cruddy! Sometimes I think I've done it with no trouble and I notice the back of my jeans, low on my calf, with a brown horizontal line--you all know what I'm talking about.... You stretch your leg to get out and it brushes......that one
