"A garden is never so good as it will be next year."-- Thomas Cooper

My Dad seemed to exemplify this garden wisdom; in his Maine gardens he continually added more compost, tried out and ruled in or out the latest offering from Burpee; discovered companion plants and plants that seemed to have an aversion to each other, found a source for manure...even in his final home in a community care facility in Biddeford, he had the groundsmen prepare him a little garden plot...he was a minister...but above all he was a gardener. Gardeners live for "next year".

Never try to teach a pig to sing
It wastes your time and it annoys the pig

(Why is this thread making me remember all the "sayings" I heard at work)

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty...and the pig *likes* it.

I have found that pigs like it more when I rub their belly.
