The funny thing is though the forests in Yosemite and the rest of the state are dying rapidly. There's no water coming and it's only getting hotter. The farming economy will cease to exist if conditions don't change next year. So much for being the best park state if there's no trees left eventually.

Military brought me there and I almost stayed there to attend college after I was discharged because college was so cheap there at the time (1970/1980s). Plus the weather in No. California was nice. Hot and dry but nice. Rainy winter but drive 1 hour east up into the mountains and plenty of snow. But the central valley, whew, I discovered that I had some allergies there that I never knew I had.....

Unfortunately, it looks like California is experiencing a dramatic and negative shift for the worst as they seem to be on the receiving end of rapidly warming temperatures overall. I fear that they are headed for very hard times and it will be getting even more national publicity.

I, too, fear for the West.

While folks back east are snarkily making fun of Global Warming in the midst of their 100-year winter, in the West we are seeing record high temperatures and drought. When you look at hillsides the size of counties that are completely covered in dead mature forest consisting of trees that are 200+ years old and they all have succumbed to drought in a period of less than five years, it is sobering.

If I were going to buy 100 acres today, I'd be looking more at Maine than California.

^ I showed my mom the photos of the disappearing lakes and my research paper about the other problems that are happening especially with the diminishing hydropower resources. If I were to recommend buying property on the west coast now, it would be Washington only. Most people here do not want to hear about the possibility that their fantasy world is about to be over.

Too bad we couldn't ship the Californians our snowpack from the northeast (minus the salt and other additives of course) to dump in their lakes and streams. It would be a win-win. No way to do that though. NOT being sarcastic either.

Douglas MacArthur was born in Arizona into a family of Virginians. The birth announcement read, "Born to Major Arthur MacArthur and Mrs. MacArthur, a son, Douglas. The MacArthurs were not at home at the time." As I said above, the word 'home' is a powerful thing.

Speaking of fun things, I'm VERY glad I am moving to Maine and going to UMO in August!

California has about one year of water left. Will you ration now? - LA Times
