It seems like the good weather is bringing the bad drivers out in droves today. Fortunately, no accidents, but in the 45 minutes from Bangor to home, at least five cars drifted over the center line, and I saw one guy almost get creamed when he didn't yield to traffic on the Interstate as he was coming out from the Hogan Road on-ramp!

Sheesh, we are all lucky to make it home alive, the way people drive out there! Be careful!

I'm seeing many drivers turn left coming at me way to close (or in) my lane (perhaps expecting me move for them?). It's just laziness, but it does scare me.

I see a lot of people drifting toward the center, and then pull it back over at the last second. What gives?! I get it, we have potholes, but hitting a pothole isn't as bad as hitting another car!
I mentioned this when I first moved here, that drivers seem to ride that center line, and often times go over it. It's been going at least since I moved here, which means definitely longer. The only explanation I was given was because of snow...well, it's not snowing now, so why the heck are people still riding that fricken line? Get in your own. dang. lane!

Maybe it has something to do with the picture below. Leaving Dover and going the back roads to Madison one day a few years ago in late December to visit relatives, I encountered this "three lane road" that kind of freaked me out when a big truck went by going the opposite direction. It's like we both had to share the middle lane. I was a nervous wreck.

you don't want to short-side yourself on a rural road,,,,and have no reaction time if a deer, moose or turkey runs out
also, if by chance a deer or moose are in the road - and head lights are blinding them - you have more choices/chance to go left or right to avoid them

also, the bank/grade of the roads are quite something,, even if isn't frost heaves,,,, sometimes it feels like you are in a tilta wheel...
so if in the middle of the road(with no oncoming cars coming) - its more level

There is no cell phone ban but there is a ban on texting of course. I talk on my cell while driving but I can voice dial so I do not have to look at the phone.

OK, so I drove back from Oxford last night in the rain and I'll tell you one thing.........the state/towns need to do a better job at painting roads! Most roads had very little paint left on the center lines and it was VERY hard to determine where you were on the road........especially in the rain with on-coming traffic blinding me. I know that Maine doesn't have any money to maintain roads.......but painting center lines is a pretty big safety issue IMO. Waiting for a fatal where it is determined the lack of painted lines is a contributing factor........
