What do we do for outdoor activities?

Do you go skiing? downhill or cross-country? Anyone here go to sugarloaf? lost valley? Sunday River?

Snowmobiling? does anyone travel up north or in western maine to go on the well groomed trails?? or in trails nearby?

Do you icefish?? where abouts?

It's interesting to get different perspectives across the state

We snowmobile, ice fish, snowshoe, track, hunt (snowshoe hare) and ride to look for photo ops. We have cross country skis but haven't used them in years. Maybe I'll give them another try. I taught an open fire cooking class this winter, on the ice. And sledding!

Remember to dress in layers, move if you get cold, take off layers if you get hot to avoid sweating, and invest in good clothes. By invest I don't mean spend a fortune. You can find great end of season sales and get great quality without paying for a good name brand.

I would really really like to get one of those ice sail boats. I saw one brand new at the Rockland Boatshow a couple of years ago for $1500, and I be that I could get one for $700 used. Sailing on Echo or Eagle lake in Jan and early February would be a blast.

We've caught a lot. Depending on where we go, bass, white perch, cusk and salmon, or bass, yellow perch and chain pickerel. I'd like to catch a togue.

I have a friend who builds ice boats from scratch for about $400 and you can get a sail on-line for as low as sixty. They are a hoot! You can put wheels on his and use them at low tide on the ocean beaches too. If you're interested I can give you his contact info.

I have seen people skating and being towed by large parasail type kites. That should be an inexpensive way to go fast.
