Too many variables, no? How big is your house, target temperature, insulation, efficiency of stove design . . . and kind of wood. On the last point, are most deliveries mixed hardwoods? Do they tell you what you're getting?

For our 850 sq. ft. Chalet we get by on 3 cord of wood and electric heat backup in an average year. So far we seem to be about halfway through our 3 cord pile----a little ahead of schedule. Too costly to rely on the electric for below 30˚ days and colder nights , so we will probably be buying wood bricks in the spring.

im buying these compressed fire bricks...i love em, they are very clean, come wrapped in hard plastic.. a local country store sells these...similar to the ones home depot sells but better home depot is 4.99 for 3 large compressed bricks,,,this store is 3.29 for the same thing....so do some research in your area if you want to buy these

a few friends started to burn these and like em alot,,,,no cutting and splitting wood,,,these are very simple to use,,

ive been buying 10-15 at a time. (wasnt sure i would like them)but for next year, i will buy by the pallet..

and they will burn from newspaper, dont really need kindling

My place is 750 sq.ft. I normally use around a cord to cord and a quarter plus a bag of pellets per day.

Seems like a lot. You may want to insulate, or fill in the studs.

DH restacked the firewood today. We definitely have used more than half our woodpile. looks like we'll end up using bricks by March.

I heat with a pellet stove fireplace insert and fuel oil. So far we've gone through around 300 gals of oil and around a ton of pellets. Our home is a 2300 sq ft 2 story. The past two months (Dec-Jan) have had days that barely reached 0° F as the high with a short warming trend with highs approaching 40° F. I know you meant firewood but just thought others might like to know.
