I found a company that has some modular homes they build all around Maine and there is a floor plan that is actually really nice and great for us. Not exactly our style, but if the cost is significantly less than stick built, it's something we'd consider. Does anyone have info on putting in a modular home, where they build them in the factory and bring them in with big blocks of the home already dried in and put them together and then finish the inside? Just wondering if it's an option we should consider.

It should definitely be an option. They are very good. We were looking to do just this on a piece of property, but we just were sure that we'd want to stay there and not rent it out.

Thanks. Ok, good to know this is a good option! I'm playing on RDC right now looking at land. I can't believe some of the prices. I'm always floored that there are people dumb enough to buy land an hour from the water in SW FL and pay easily ten times as much for a fraction of the land. smh..... Who wants to live in Florida?? I think people that spend too much time there have their brains baked and that's why they mistakenly call it paradise! LOL

There are lots of options for homes that are cheaper than wood-stick.

Prices for bare-land are pretty low in Maine.

Be sure to ask around, before you give anyone money though.

I put one up about 2 years ago, there may be some photos in my profile. As far as I know it was built in Pa. and trucked up. I'm not sure what you mean by big blocks and already dried. Mine came in 2 sections and they lifted it off the truck with a crane and put it together. They seamed the 2 halves together inside and I had to paint. No real major complaints, though the origional electrician and plumber I had were lying sob's.

Shoot me a private message and I'll give you all the dirt.

Yep, that's what I was talking about. They put them together in blocks or modules or whatever they're called in your area, and the blocks or modules are dried in that day. IOW they have the doors and windows in place and the roof is on so water doesn't get in if it rains or snows.

I didn't realize they'd send them from that far! Wow!! I thought I'd have to find a Maine based company. I guess I can expand the search then and find the best deal when / if the time comes.

Nope, definitely won't be handing cash over to just anyone SM. It's a ways off before we even think of it. Just something I'm kicking around right now. I decided to go back to school but it doesn't start until next fall, and will last a minimum of two years. I want to be out of school and settled into a job before I even think of another home!

I dealt with a modular home dealer from Auburn Maine, the manufacturer was from Pa. No furniture included, but all the fixtures were (lighting, sinks, toilets etc).

Still need to build a deck though, photos in my profile.

I brought ClownShoes in there in February or March. It was his first time on snowshoes.

"Take little steps. Don't step on your other snowshoe." He was a quick learner. Some people never get it.
