Does anyone out there have experience with Fairpoint Energy as an electricity supplier? I'm trying to scale down my residential overhead as much as I can. they currently seem to offer the lowest rate. Anybody had any billing, communication , or other issues with them?

We use Gulf Electricity. When I looked into researching how many electricity providers there are, I found a bunch. At that time Gulf offered the lowest price electricity.

Afterward Gulf began a rewards incentive program. We got a gift card from Gulf, good for purchasing gasoline. Gulf puts money onto the card after we spend so much on our electric bill.

There is a thread on this forum where I explained it.

Just be VERY careful before you change suppliers. I went to change mine and it turns out that they automatically "renew" your membership in their plan for a year at a time, any time they feel like it. If you cancel at any other time than when you aren't committed to their plan, you can be charged a disconnect fee. And, they don't let you know when they are renewing you (at least my supplier).

There are three magic words in the event you have a problem. "Public Utilities Commission". It is indeed magic. Your problem disappears.

The lines and poles are set by only a few companies. depending on where you are locaed, it could be Bangor Hydro, or say Central Maine power. You pay them for the delivery. You can choose who you want to pay for the electricity.

I also saw some bad consumer reviews of ElectricityME. Currently the Public Advocate shows Fairpoint offering the best kw rate. They offer 6-month contracts for fixed or variable.
