My grandparents lived there so we visited a lot in the late 50's thru the 70's.............it was much nicer back then. Not so touristy and lots less traffic!

I was stationed in Rockland in the '60's. Loved Camden. Used the laundromat there quite often.
One memory that stands out for me is walking out of the laundromat one night in Camden and being accosted by the police, saying that my car (a '59 Sport Fury of course) matched the description of one used in a burglary. After being "debriefed" at the laundromat I was free to go.
Often wondered if that was just an excuse to check me out. After all, I had Wisconsin license plates on car thus being "from away".(:

We like to go in May/June or Sept/Oct - not quite as busy then but the weather is still nice. Camden has a great craft and art fair in Oct. Another place that is worth checking out in Camden is Meguntacook Lake. Also in the shoulder season you may be lucky enough to find a parking spot on Laite Beach right near town.

The hike up the Maiden Cliff trail to the point overlooking Meguntacook Lake is one of the nicest hikes in the area.
