I am a youn female looking to move from long island ny to maine. Looking for a more simple life but definitely be close to the ocean. I love the change of seasons especially fall. I would love a town like in Gilmore girls, close community, local coffe shops and diners, and small town feel. My one concern is meeting young people. How hard is it to find someone and where would be a good place? Portland area?

Also being from Long Island, I am used to the hamptons with the small town beach feel, does kennebunkport area have that feel?

What are some complaints about living in maine?

Thanks!

I grew up on Long Island and came to Maine every summer as a teen, like many from New York and Massachusetts. 30+ years later, I'm still here. I think you're on the right track with Kennebunkport. Yarmouth might fit what you are looking for as well.

Come up for two reasons:

1. Do a job search in your field.

2. Then pick a town nearby.

I had a young family who wanted to buy a house they liked. I asked what he intended to do for a living. He intended to work in a sheet metal stamping shop. I told him there were none within 100 miles. He seemed stunned and said there were five within ten miles of his house in CT. I explained that the reason there were five is that the plant owners had a ready supply of experienced people and that probably there were regular transfers between plants.

He thanked me for my honesty and ended up buying in southern Maine.

Hey NY,

L.I. Here too. I am presently looking for a vaca home in Maine. Kennebunk is real nice! Portland is a very nice city. However, like everyone will tell you here, get a job first. Hence the reason i did not move to Maine (yet). However, for a vaca home, I am looking in Boothbay Harbor. Good luck!

It's the Hamptons (but nicer) without the attitude!

Look in the Bath - Brunswick area - It's on the coast and an easy trip to Portland if you happen to find work there.
