Hi everyone. My fiance and I are getting married in 2 months and talking about relocating. We are both from the Buffalo, NY area and are not too crazy about the way of life up here. We enjoy a slower pace of life, love living in the country (woods are a must), and have Conservative/Christian ideals. We want to live in a small, friendly town. I was up in New Limerick a few years ago visiting a friend and fell in love with it. My fiancé works within the VA system and is looking to get transferred to the Augusta location. Any advice on life in Augusta and any small towns on the outskirts you could recommend would be greatly appreciated. I personally cannot wait for the move. Thank you for any advice

Check east of the Kennebec River and north of Rt 3. Those towns are economical.

Good advice. If your guy is being transferred to Togus, there are lots of options available in the area NMLM mentions. You could also look in the Whitefield/Waldoboro areas, too, along Route 32.

augusta has high taxes
look at the surrounding towns,,,, manchester, winthrop, hallowell, farmingdale, gardiner, chelsea,
sidney, pittston

chelsea is very close to the va, as in gardiner, randolph, even whitefield, jefferson
all these towns are well within a half hr of augusta

Vassalboro borders Augusta. They have a nice little school system. Also, there's China.
