I would like to know if anyone has old photos or historical information on the Somerset Railroad and the Kineo Hotel. I am trying to gather information for a book and would appreciate receiving any of these items. Old photos, letters, articles, advertising literature or books would be of tremendous help. Thanks

Cool post dude!

First call Dr. Parker at the Moosehead Historical Society. He is an author and director of the museum. He is currently writing a couple of new books on the region. That is a good start.

I have hunted and even dug bottles up at Somerstet Junction. The Somerset road is at the East outlet on the west side of Moosehead Lake. There is still some foundation work and an old well hole on the property. Typical old growth field pine fills the defunct property.

Other places to start is the Maine State Museum and possibly Coles transportation museum. Keep in touch and I can see what I can dig up. Good Luck!

Dr. Walter Macdougall's new book "By Brain and Brawn." He has also written a book about "The Old Somerset Railroad."

He is a wealth of information and can be reached via snail mail at 75 Sargent Hill Dr., Milo, ME. 04463.

His recent work was written with Bob Roberts of Monson, who was supervisor on the Onawa to Greenville run for a couple of decades.

Depending on what are you looking for in Kineo info or memorabilia, be sure to check e-bay as I've often found stuff there to. For instance, I have a two sided steamship schedule for the Katahdan or kineo sitting in my pile of stuff in front of me, that I found online.
