Our family may be moving to the Calais area in about a year and I have been researching all I can about the area. We will have kids in Elementary school and Middle school and from what I have found, the test scores don't seem to be very good. Can anyone here tell me more about the education options in the area?
Thanks.

Default Schools

If schools in Calais are not to your liking, send them across the bridge to St, Stephen New Brunswick, but they may get a Canadian bias on the American education sysyem.

I am just south of Calais and the schools here are great. My Grandson goes to the Alexander school and they are great.

I you choose to live a little north of Calais, you could check out the Lee schools.

GreatSchools.org Search: lee

The Alexander elementary school is also very good.

From time to time US Route 1 north goes due south and vice versa. If you want to go north on Route 1 out of Calais and the setting sun is on your right you just need to have faith that the road goes to Houlton and Madawaska.

It takes the turn north at the intersection of SR 9 and US 1.... barely noticeable though.

Calais is not a huge metropolis. If you want more school/education options, you could choose Bangor or Portland. Are you implying that there is something wrong with the students in Calais or something wrong with the teachers and/or school administration in Calais or something wrong with the tests?

"If" in fact the test scores don't seem to be very good in Calais, ask yourself all the reasons why that might be true and conduct further research. There are probably a number of factors. For example, ask what tests are given and when during the school year they are given. You might be surprised. Kids who are intelligent and apply themselves tend to do well where ever they are planted and parental support is always important. Students who aren't the smahtest but apply themselves will do better than they would otherwise. Just because some students do not do well on tests doesn't mean the same will be true for your children. If your children have other issues that need special attention, you may need a special school. ...or maybe you could find a virtual school that would suit your children--I guess location wouldn't matter as long as you have Internet....
