I am considering relocating there. I'm NE born & raised, so I'm used to winter.

What I'm looking for is a small town atmosphere to live in, and have a small, pet-care related home business in.

Would this work, or should I keep looking?

Are you sure you are talking about Porter, not Portland. Its a very tiny hamlet about an hour driving time west of Portland, 4 miles from the NH border.

I'm not sure that there is enough people there to support a pet care business.

Porter ME is very, very rural. I've been through it many times, as I have friends who live in the Center Ossipee-Freedom NH area which is only a few miles away.

I think Porter and nearby communities might be a little too small and not exactly economically booming to sustain a pet-care business.

Here's three photos from the Porter area. First, looking from Porter towards NH. Second (slightly out of order) is Limington Rapids. Third, is looking from NH towards Maine. The road you see is the main road through there, it's Route 25 that ultimately goes into Portland.

What's that river in the middle photo... I thought I saw a fish jump!

That looks like Gobolubus Falls on the Willimatogus, but maybe not.

The river is the Saco. Route 25 crosses the Saco at Limington Rapids, where there is a small park. You can fish and picnic there.

It's east of Cornish and west of Standish on Route 25.

I just threw in the photo because it was near the Porter sign and not that far way so the OP can get some idea of what the general area looks like. I knew it would be appreciated.

OK, I let it ride for over 24 hours and lest anybody venture out to find "Gobolubus Falls on the Willimatogus", it's a fictitious place.

OK..would the area support multi-family housing (apartments)? I stumbled across a foreclosure property that could be of interest as well.

Good question,

if i were in your shoes, id call the town office-they seem to have a pulse on small town everything- and ask, if they knew of any available apartment rentals- see whats on the market, and get a feel for the existing vacancy rates
