Does anybody know how long you have after you bring a vehicle into the state from out of state, and get it registered, you have to then get it inspected for Maine?

I know it has to be inspected once a year.....

I checked with the local registration in BH today. This is not true, at least for Hancock County. My PA inspection is good until it runs out. So my one car is good until March of 2012, and the other one is out of inspection tomorrow.

The month that you get the Maine tag, sets the month of your inspection.

We tried to get our inspection month changed once, and failed.

We recently bought a new vehicle; the salesman made a big deal of their temp tags and how I should wait to their last day before I registered it. Since that would be into the next month, and would get us one more month to have the vehicle before inspections were due. He seemed to think that getting that extra month was a major victory.

What can I say? The town office in Bar Harbor said something completely different. Maybe when my Pa runs out in March, Then it will need to be renewed again in December 2012. But since the world as we know it is going to end on December 21, 2012 at 9:00 AM, it may not matter.

I would get it inspected in the summer if the PA one is legal [this i'm not sure on] DON'T try to get one in December or early January.

MOST inspection stations send in their old sticker books usually by mid December. and as I found out in Jan of 1998 we had an ice storm that crippled everything and I went a month with no sticker, [I was legal as I was Emergency Management personal and could drive ANYTHING]. I made sure after that I got an inspection in June [helps to know a good mechanic]

You can't get a car inspected in a state unless the car has the registration of that state. My inspection is legal until it runs out. Then I will have to get a Maine Inspection because my registration is in Maine. I can drive my PA car with the bad inspection here as long as I want if I don't get caught, since nobody here can demand that it be inspected.

After registration(in Maine) an out of state inspection is valid until it expires

I was stopped by the State Police on I95 when they noticed that I had an out of state (MO) inspection sticker and Maine plates. There was no exp date on the sticker, so the trooper let me go after running my license and registration. I obtained the plates without a Maine inspection, but had the Maine inspection done before the registration expired.
