A few shoots are limited to .22s, but most will take whatever you bring. We see a lot of AR-15, SKS, AK, M1, M14 and the occasional FAL. We even had a guy show up with a Mosin Nagant. It was a very accurate rifle. All that said, the most economical to shoot is the .22. It's a very good skill builder. It's good to bring two bulk packs of .22 ammunition available at WalMart. Not many people need a thousand rounds, but going through 700 rounds is not unusual.
No, handguns did not play a significant part in the events of April 19,1775. However, there was one individual who had a matched pair of pistols. When asked where he got the pistols he said he got them from a French officer "who didn't need them any more".
There are no handguns on the line at an Appleseed. Bear in mind that what we teach in two days is covered over a whole week in other courses.
I have not been to the Capitol City range yet. Most ranges allow big bore rifles, but they are expensive to shoot. Most shooters start with .22s and move up to military calibers.
