Yup. Sometimes I think it's just amazing how that this concept is totally lost on some people.

Reloop and Maine Writer get my vote. If one doesn't like casinos...don't go. Been to a few myself and I have no belief that I should be responsible for the irresponsible.

Im from the Seattle Metro area we have several mega casinos, In my city of Auburn Wa we have a casino (Muckleshoot) that has 15 resteraunts and bars , 4,000+ machines, 120+ card tables and free vegas style entertainment in club galaxy 7 days a week. The jobs at the casino are paying well above industry standard and it employs over 1,000 people . We have not had an increase in crime just lots of new hotels have been built close to the casino. Actually its been kind of a boom for the area its brought lots of new business and jobs to the city. Lots of the local people dont gamble but eat at the resteraunts for there great inexpensive food 24hrs a day. Seattle area also has several nice casino resorts also Tulaip, Clearwater, Snoqualmie if you would like to see how classy casinos can be look them up.

I also am in this group. My wife and I go gambling a few times a year, and as a result we end up going all the way to CT. Half the time we go for the pizza. (Frank Pepes at the mohegan sun)

I just spent a few minutes this am reading about question 2 and 3. I will be voting for both to pass. I dont agree with all the details of either, but I think they will do far more good than harm.

Here is some more info on both, that shows both sides and whos funding what. Remember following the money...

When I vote I am considering what is the best for Maine..... I have concluded that in order for the casino's to be profitable.....lots of Mainers must continue to lose their hard earned money ... and lots of it, on a regular basis.....the money that the promoters say will be flowing into the coffers of the towns and cities.....will be coming out of the food budgets, rent payments and school lunch money of average Mainers.

I honestly cant see how this can be of any benefit to Maine. IMHO... Its not about horse farms, or good paying jobs, or even local control.....it is about expanding gambling and skimming our distressed economy to give Nevada interests more profits. I am against it.

Are these people experienced in casino operation? if so how if they are Mainers?

Ocean Properties is a huge hotel chain that is owned and operated by an elderly man named Tom Walsh who is from Newport. He has half the hotels in Bar Harbor and is building the new one where the Quarterdeck used to be @ 1 Main Street. He also owns the Harborside complex and almost all the waterfront businesses in Bar Harbor. He owns hotels all over the US -lots in Fla.

Just google Ocean Properties. It isn't some fly by night corp.

I'm with Elston. Mainers need a different focus for our state's agencies and tax dollars.

Okay thank you. I did not know that.

I had googled 'Scarborough Downs' and found a lot of junk marketing these casinos, but had no idea who was behind 'Scarborough Downs'.

So a guy in Bar Harbor owns a hotel chain and he owns 'Scarborough Downs'? Cool.

So where does the idea that

come from?

I saw what Nevada money did to Connecticut. Currently gambling here is either Iowa money or Penn money. So I had to assume that this was either one of them or Nevada money.
