A few days ago at City Park ( about 3 miles from home). Kelley got excited and ran ahead as she does when she catches the scent of another dog. I sped up to catch up to her and heard a growl as I came into view of Kelley and a bear - I couldn't tell exactly what was going on as the bear was down on all fours and the grass on the trail is high but they seemed to be going at it. Kelley then retreated and came back to me and I secured her on a leash and turned to hopefully get a shot of the bear. It stood up- it's intimidation stance I suppose- I got 1 bracketed 3 shot before it dropped back down and moved off the trail. Kelley was pulling at her leash and wanting to return to the bear- I think she thought it was some kind of big dog.

Wow, how close were you to the bear when you took these shots?

daydreamin-- I would guess about 20 feet - after the bear dropped down it move off the trail and we walked by and could see it sitting there just a few feet away- it did not seem threatening- just waiting for us to pass- there is water there and i think that's why it was there.

PAhippo- Thanks - Kelley thinks everyone and everything is her friend

wow, great shots,,,,,this would be out of my comfort zone (if i didnt have a gun, air horn, or bear mace)
(I watched the grizzly man video clips on youtube, too many times- timothy treadwell up in alaska, ultimately got eaten by a bear (along with his girlfriend) he took pics and videos of bears,,,but was a fruit loop, and took too many chances-although something I did learn from his close ups with bears,,,is show no fear.....and dont turn your back to them (if they seem threatening)

in all my years in the maine woods,,,, ive never come across a bear like this....it would be an awesome sight,,,again,,,if the bear didnt charge
