Double this! You will need to let us know whether you want to be isolated in the interior or on the coast? Whether you need high quality medical care? Whether you want to buy a house or move into a retirement community? What kind of education level and what what politics do you want you community to be like? ETC.

My wife and I are retiring in 65 work days. And we bought a house on Mount Desert Island for that purpose back in 2007. There is an excess of retired people there(40% according to the 2000 census), and with two major bio labs and a college, the number of people with college degrees and advanced degrees is higher than many places. There is a quality hospital on island, a very active Senior College, a number of churches including a Quaker Meeting. Its where we wanted to be, and as soon after June 30 that we sell our house in south east PA, we're in Maine!

Nice. Congratulations!!! I think you will fully enjoy your retirement. (I can't wait for my turn.)

I've looked in that area while I've been scouring around for information all over the internets and it looks like a really great place to call home.

You know, I will be thinking of you in 65 days. I really will because it's such a great thing and as I said, I can't wait for my turn. It's not fair of me to be envious because you worked hard and you earned it...but I sure am wishing I could say the same--65 days...sigh...that's gotta be a great feeling.

I hope you'll post here and share your new life with everyone.

'Salem's Lot"? lol,.... Eastport is a nice community. The previuos posters are correct, a lot depends on what your idea of a "cute, quaint village" is.

I always thought of Eastport as more of a Peyton Place...

Has anyone seen CSI: Eastport?
