For a capitol city it is quiet I grew up there and have family there as well. they are getting a new high school I think this year or maybe next. Overall not a bad place close to the ocean and Portland and within a couple hours of
wilderness areas

My relatives live there for over 15 years now and I've lived + worked there for 4 months last year and I loved Augusta! It's nice cause the city is not TOO big and there's nice landscape and it's not too far away from cities like Portland or Bangor etc. They also have some good (private) schools.

Augusta is ok as long as you watch where you live, there are some areas much worse than others.

The West Side Neigbhorhood bounded by Western Ave on the south to Winthrop Street on the north, State St on the east and the airport to the west -- well, its a charming little village hidden away among all the less charming conveniences (malls and such).
Very convenient to all major roads and that is a big help. Nice parks, great library, museum, and YMCA. There are many families with kids in the neighborhood, and some lovely homes available!

Augusta is like any other big city (well, not that big). There are good parts, there are bad parts. I live in Hallowell, the next town South, and absolutely love it.
