I could not believe the storm we had last night!
Here in Freeport we had several roads closed from downed trees.
They said the high gusts were around 63 mph but I know full well they were beyond hurricane strength around here.
The last time my house shook was 20 something years ago with hurricane Bob. Bob was a close category two that rocked my house pretty good. Last night my house rocked again! We lost some 60 foot spruce trees that were virtually snapped off the trunk! There were downed trees all over the place. BIG ONES!! Schools were closed around here due to lack of power and they just got all of the power restored to the area. I was up half the night pumping out my cellar with a generator and sump pump! It was a wild one!

Yeah, we got some buffeting down here, but nothing like that.

What we DID get was 1-2" of snow, the earliest (November 8th) that I can recall in many decades. It melted during the day, but all morning, everything was covered in white.

Usually, it does not snow around here till just before or after Thanksgiving. Often it will not snow till December. I love it though, always have since I was a boy. I think life in northern Maine will be a real treat!

The winds howled like a banshee here in Gorham and lots of trees came down (Rt 114)....and school was closed. It was one of the noisest storms I have heard in a long time....."screaming winds....moaning and wailing winds on and on and on. No damage to my place.....we seem more susceptable to micro-blasts and tornedos than storms of that nature.

The thing that got me about that storm was the National Weather Service never said boo about it. We were caught completely off guard in the hardest hit areas. They predicted that the storm would come through on Monday afternoon not Sunday and may have wind gusts in excess of 43 mph.
The SUSTAINED wind was close to 40 MPH with gusts well over 65 mph. I still believe we had gusts here close to if not better than hurricane force. To snap off trees like it did that wind had to be exceptional. We had stroms in the summer where the NWS told us we had 60 mph gusts and there was no where near the damage this storm caused.
