Just wondering if MGE ever has winter power outages? This being our first winter here, we want to be prepared and I'm wondering when the last time a power outage in winter was in Madison (city)?

I don't even remember a time when the power went out in the winter. The summer, yes, but never winter.

A power outage never happened in the winter during my 10 years there. Of course, all it takes is for someone to hit a nearby pole too hard with their vehicle. It's nothing I would lose any sleep worrying about if I were still there.

It happened in the 70's once during a nasty ice storm. Parents were at work all day, and we must have been off school. I remember it being very cold and miserable. Power didn't get back on until the next day. We bundled up, found whatever could be eaten, and hunkered down.

Yeah. Just heard from my Mom in Janesville. They were without power for about an hour down there. Okay, now I can say I've heard of a power outage in winter.

Never say never Power was lost in some areas on the east side and Monona. Some people had a somewhat miserable Tuesday night burning candles to keep warm.
