I'm wrapping up an interview in Louisville next week and was wondering what neighborhoods would be best for me? I'm 44, single, enjoy a healthy dose of good eating and drinking and prefer a more urban setting but I'd also be open to the burbs. I've been to Louisville once for business years ago and it seemed like a cool area from what I remember. I'd be looking to rent for a year so a nice apartment building in a nice, bustling area of the city would be much appreciated as well.

Probaby Frankfort Ave out to St Matthews or Baxter Ave / Bardstown Rd. Crime has gone up a ton in the past few years but generally these areas haven't seen an increase in shootings or homicides. On the Indiana side east Main St in New Albany or the area around Big 4 Bridge and Ashland Park in Clarksville / Jeffersonville are nice and have much cheaper car insurance than urban areas on KY side.

I drove through Louisville earlier this year and Bardstown Road is Adorable. Miles of cute restaurants, cafes, and historic residential neighborhoods.

Crimegrade.org shows on a map (for every city in the nation) which areas are safe or dangerous. In Louisville, by and large everything east and northeast of Bardstown road is safe. The west side (west of downtown) is the scary part and east side is wealthy. Bestneighborhood.org has maps by income level and many other variables, so you can see precisely where the highest-income neighborhoods and even by political affiliation.

On the crimegrade.org maps, virtually everything along the Gene Snyder Freeway on the east side of town (starting just before the intersection at Bardstown Rd and going north/east) is maximally safe (coded in dark green on their maps).

Yep.

One of my favorite areas in any large U.S. city.

It has something for everyone in terms of any type of restaurant one can imagine, the one downside is parking can be a challenge on Bardstown Rd.

Eh, the Indiana side isn’t as nice as the Kentucky side, in my opinion. There is a reason why Middletown has more expensive real estate prices than Clarksville and Jeffersonville.

All the nicer real estate in southern Indiana is generally concentrated in central and western Floyd County. Greenville, Georgetown, Floyds Knobs (Lafayette Township), Georgetown Township, and Greenville Township.
