I will be relocating for a job in downtown Louisville for 6-12 months max. I've lived in Indiana my entire life and was looking at renting in the Southeastern part of Indiana. Just curious what the commute is like during rush hour to downtown Louisville? How long does it typically take and would be it any better than the traffic in Louisville?

Is is worth it to live a bit cheaper and not change state of residency and deal with the commute or just relocate closer to the office in Louisville?

Much appreciated!!

Just going to downtown isn't too bad. 2nd Street Bridge (US 31) goes to downtown Louisville and right onto I-65 with usually minimal delays. I-64 from New Albany isn't bad except for some afternoon slowdowns going west on the bridge, but they're usually under 5 minute delays. My wife commutes from New Albany to downtown and it's usual only 15 minutes morning or afternoon.

It is really not a bad commute! The worst is probably 64 East from Georgetown into the city from 730 to 9 AM....you get about 10-15 mins of slowdowns most days.

The second street bridge is congested all day long since its now the free bridge into downtown. During nights of concerts at Yum, expect to wait 20 mins to cross that bridge.

Other than that, traffic congestion in Louisville is well below most other top 50 cities. It's about average for traffic.

New Albany to Downtown Louisville is cake work, 10-15 minutes max, and NO tolls. Plus New Albany is a great place to be right now, very “up & coming”, a lot of character, local restaurants & flair, etc...
