My partner and I are looking to relocate and we really enjoy Louisville but want to live in the suburbs because we have 3 kids. Does anyone know if BArdstown would be a good suburb, I dont want to have problems with neighbors because of our sexual oreintation. Thanks

I have never lived in bardstown so i can't really speak to experience. I do know that kentucky in general outside of jefferson county seems to be rooted in the conservative religious right. you definately could not go wrong in parts of louisville. there are good schools here as well as bad.

Honestly, no.

- Bardstown/Nelson County public schools are not worth the commute to louisville.
- Bardstown is more stereotypical Kentucky than Louisville which means more conversative which means being homosexual will be touchy.
- Bardstown is at least 45 minutes to Louisville.

I think Louisville itself is the safest option for gay acceptance. I would hesitantly say Oldham County is more likely of the area surburbs to be accepting of gay couples.

Agree on all counts. Except to add that the Highlands in Jefferson County and most of the eastern portion of Jefferson County (say around Middletown or Anchorage) might be slightly better than Oldham County.

Another agree. I grew up in the Bardstown area and, while you won't be run out of town with torches and pitchforks, you won't be greeted with open arms either. I'd suggest looking at somewhere closer Louisville instead.

Any newer opinions out there on this subject? I know two gay couples living in this area and they say they've had no issues at all. Just curious, because we moved here almost two years ago and I'm always impressed with the mix of residents considering the small size of the town.
