I was born in LC, moved near Lafayette when i was 6, and raised there. I moved back to LC to attend McNeese. I now live in BR.

So, having lived in all 3 places, I have to say LC is no place for a person looking for a good nitescene. Lafayette is the place 2 be! LC i s good for hunting, fishing, and going to Church..that's about it! Contraband Days is all skanky and the Mardis Gras sucks. There are no good clubs/bars for people to go to that arent hillbilly, gamblers, cowboys, or a senior citizens. OBs used to rock when Trashy Djd there back in college.

So, in conclusion, move to Laffy! Plus the people are nicer in Acadiana and the women are way better looking!!!!!

On a positive note, I hear a City Bar is being built and DJ Trashy is playing there June 1st. That is definately sum good news right there! See ya there

There are some cowboys and there are some regular people too. Mostly regular people. It's the same as Lake Charles.

What's wrong with cowboys???

Default Yes

I think it is a good place to live. i dont know what you mean by nightlife, but the hurricane damage is a whole lot better than it used to be! It is a 2 and a half hour drive to houston and 2 hours if your fast enough. Yes it is a good move for you and there is a club called cowboys on the southside of town and a club called Festival City on the north side of town. (southside of town being the better side of town with less crime)

I know this thread is over 2 years old, but i have to warn anyone reading this. Lake Charles is one of the worst places in the country. I was in the military and lived in 6 different states and drove through about 30 of them so i have alot to campare it to. Lake Charles by was by far the worst i have ever lived. It is filthy, most people there are filthy and uneducated. there are no good clubs, just holes in the wall places that drunkards hangout in. no good restaurants if you want variety or culture. There are always massive road construction projects that no one seems to be working on and the roads are still terrible. The whole time i was there I was worried about developing cancer from all the chemical plants that undoubtedly dump waste into the disgusting salt water lake

We have real estate investments there and I actually like it a lot. Between Lafayette and Lake Charles it would be a toss up for me. I would like having the lake and casinos nearby, plus it's a quicker drive to Houston. On the other hand Lafayette has a better mall and more shopping, but the traffic is always congested when I've been there.

I don't know anything about schools, but it would be a non issue for me anyway. Louisiana is pretty business friendly in our experience and would consider living in the southwest part of the state. Northern Louisiana isn't for me (no offense to anyone) and New Orleans is a toilet... at least it was before the hurricane. I haven't been back since the hurricane but I can't imagine it's gotten any better.

Just my two cents, and I am an outsider, but I generally like southwest Louisiana, particularly Lake Charles very much, and I have put my money where my mouth is. If my family situation was different, it would be on my short list of places to live.

so mdmgana, you come from a family of real estate agents are are you an agent? I ask b/c you've mentioned it a few times about having real estate investements in LC and you live in Cali. But yeah, SWLA is not a bad area, it's just that hurricane rita took away the little bit that LC had, and this city could be a great city if downtown were improved. I mean LC probably has more character than any city its size. As for NO being a toilet lol, what do you think Lake Charles(I'm talking about the actual lake) is?
