My husband and I are relocating to the St. james Parish area. There is a new power plant going up and he will be building it. I came down to check it out over my spring break, and it was so different than IL. After visiting gramercy/Lutcher, i got the idea that this was a rough area. ( am i wrong?) I seen that all the kids are where wearing uniforms and ID. Is this normal for most schools in the area? I stayed on thibidaux, and I liked this town, but it is aways from where my husband will be working. I was thinking of moving to Varcherie. Bc it is seems to be convient for both of. I am open to ideas. I have a 3yr old who i would like to send to a pre school. I am a nursing student so i will be driving either to new orleans or Thibodaux to school. I want to live somewhere safe, where my daughter and i can go to the park and play and not worry if we are in danger. if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Default St James Parish

Where is the plant that your husband will be working? I grew up in Vacherie and commuted to Thibodaux daily for school. It's about a 25 minute drive. Vacherie is a great little town. Most that live there are 3rd, 4th, 5th generations so most everyone knows each other. Be wary of gossip as, since they know each other, they know all and everything. It's more than affordable to live there, and New Orleans is only about 45 minutes away (the airport is about 30 minutes). You'd be close to New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Hope this Helps.....

Default Areas not "Rough"

Hey, I am 23 and have lived in St. James Parish all my life, When I was in 12th grade the put into effect the uniforms, Most school here in Louisiana have uniforms, public and private. I live gramercy now, and have lived on this side of the river all my life, moving from paulina before I lived here, I honestly dont know how life in Vacherie is but Paulina is the best place to live, Its quiet, everyone is friendly and the public school there is wonderful. They do not have Pre K 3 program, but they do have Pre K 4, My son went and he loved it, Depending if you are in school for RN or LPN they have a variety of school within , i would say a 45 minute drive.
