Is this meant in jest? As satire, it's really funny.

But to seriously ask people to conform--that sounds like something out of a futuristic novel in which there is some fascist or communist takeover. And to say that history doesn't impact our time? History is living. What is going on now is a continuation of it.

I suppose growing up where I did, I am used to Hispanic culture. I think history is quite meaningful, however, and my reason for mentioning it is that there are Hispanics who have resided in this State for over 200 years and who have largely kept their culture intact, much like the Cajuns. Of course people should immigrate legally and there are certainly English language requirements for naturalization. Your question was whether people in New Orleans are bothered by Hispanics. I lived in New Orleans for seventeen years and just left in June. Although illegal immigration and undocumented workers are something that concern me, Hispanics in general do not. There are good people from every walk of life and every culture. I don't think that is something to be overlooked.

Are those topics not related? The OP asked how people about the influx of Latin peoples in a particular place. I'd say that relates to how people feel about immigration and the language issue.

Yes, but a discourse on the schooling practices of Europe, English as a first language, and the historical financial impact of our government on Latin countries is stretching the limits more than a wee bit. Immigration and politics have their own forums - it's not just a Louisiana thing. Thanks for your comments.

I see your rationale, but it seems like moderators could drive themselves insane finding overlaps and judging whether or not something belongs here or there or wherever else. I don't think it's worth the trouble; I can't really take an online forum that seriously. It's certainly nothing against you (or any of others) personally, but I can't see the purpose of a moderator in a setting like this. JMO.

Well it's not worth stepping beyond this forum to discuss. It applied to this thread. Shades of Spike's arbitrary rulings on GW.

I did go to the other forum and post a response, but I agree with you and also think it was all relevant to this forum.

I haven't seen a huge influx of hispanics in the BTR area. Maybe they are concentrated in small areas like BRMan says. I don't know. I don't see them.
I have been to Texas many times, and don't mind their presence at all. Doesn't bother me.
