My wife and I are moving to LA in 2 months. We've been in this process for about a year ever since she has secured a post-doctorate position that pays about $40k, so the pressure for me to find that 40hr/wk high paying gig isn't as immediate (though you net your ass I'll be looking). I am in the post-produciton/animaiton/graphics end of the video production industry with 21st century skills. For simplicities sake we'll just say i'm an editor, but those in the production industry know the nuances so maybe they can offer some insight... okay enough about me.

Has the recession hit that industry as bad as construction, travel agents etc. etc. etc. Should I be worried that I need to switch careers. Will it take me forever to find work? I see openings at production houses all the time. which leads me to believe that the market is moving at least a little.

Any production guys and gals wanna chime in?

I have done a handful of online editing jobs which I know is much more common there on most projects where here you really only online edit longer form pieces. Why do you ask?

Has the industry been hit? Of course, but business(work volume) is still doing pretty good. Look all day, every day, and you SHOULD be able to find something. From what I know, here in Burbank, most places aren't actively "hiring", however, they'll hire the right person. Make sense?

My boyfriend and I are finishing school in December and live in South Florida. We have been hearing that it's getting hard to get jobs at local news stations. I heard that some stations will hire interns and after their intern is done they hire them for nothing and after a couple of months they lay them off. No bueno. I'm freaking out my self that's why I'm going back to school for marketing as well. Hopefully that will hope us get a better job.We have experience with Final Cut/after effects, avid, script writing, cameras panasonic 300 & 500, Tv studio, Tele-prompting, Audio, ect.
