I'm a female in my 20's and live with my roommate in Huntington Beach but work in downtown LA.
I obviously can't stand the commute so I'm looking to move closer to LA.
However, my boyfriend lives in Long Beach- Belmont Shores area, so I don't want to go too far North.
And would like to be near the coast...
Any suggestions of a safe and affordable area?
What about San Pedro? I've heard mixed things...

If you are living alone, I would not recommend it. There are parts of San Pedro that are still okay -- but overall it has declined in past years.

You can find roommates in San Pedro. Rent is not exactly cheap in San Pedro. I will tell you do not live below S Gaffey St. from Summerland to 26th street. It is ok to live below S gaffey after 26th street toward to the beach. San Pedro is not exactly close to L.A. but yes you have easy access to the Freeway. If you have anymore questions please don't hestitate to email me. Good Luck

Crime in San Pedro is out of site - lots of gang problems - don't go there. How about Seal Beach - great little town and right next to Long Beach. Long Beach is the 2nd largest city in Los Angeles county - east long beach has lots of nice, safe areas. San Pedro is surrounded by high crime, rather ugly areas - I wouldn't recommend it.
