If you could rent a whole house in a nice area of LA for $1000/mo, nobody would be complaining about the cost of housing. My wife is from San Pedro and she confirms its not a nice area.

You posted this a week ago, so you've probably been down to San Pedro by now, but, in case you haven't...

LOL. I went driving round San Pedro because of the movie Shelter. I drove by the house in the movie just to check it out.

It really isn't a nice neighborhood. It is kind of a dump. But, as far as dumpy neighborhoods go, it is alright. The websites say that the schools aren't really bad. The crime stats say that neighborhoods aren't super dangerous. You could do worse.

You really need to see it with your own eyes. I'd live there, but, then again, I'm not normal.

San Pedro is a very bland city which is full of hispanics and some sources of crime.
The high school, San Pedro High, is a horrible school with disrespectful children, they need to grow up. If you want to live in San Pedro go somewhere up in Palos Verdes because there its much better then San Pedro down near downtown san pedro.

Have you been to San Pedro?
I was in Pedro for 25 yrs, lets just say.... stay above Leland, between 9th and 31st. $1000 is cheap for Pedro, sent up a red flag for me!

"You don't go through Pedro, you go to Pedro"

Like any city you have areas you rather not visit. You must see it yourself...go on the weekend to get a real taste of the area.
