Hey everyone!!!!
I really need your help!!!!
At the end of 2010/ begining of 2011 I want to move to the USA, for may reasons, but the problem is that I have no idea of where to start!!

I chose California as a point of referance because a) I love the sea
b) I will have a degree in Television production and management and thought L.A would be a good place for the industry.

I've seen a few rental apartments at about $1500- $2000 a month that seem nice. Are they too pricey? and where are the "nice" places to live??

Any ideas for me would be very much apreciated!!
Please excuse my ignorance in this matter, as I said I don't have a clue as to where to start!!!

Thank You for taking the time!

You need a work permit/visa to move to the USA.

The visa/work permit is not the problem. Trying to find a suitable place to live is though.. Suppose I work in Burbank?

Your homework on web forums might not do you much good.
To put it mildly, be prepared to find out that few things will fit your expectations.
You'll still love the ocean! Practice your sense of adventure, you'll need it.
And go with the flow.

Just remember the old LA adage - I'm an actor, just working as a waiter in between gigs. OR - there's lots of people in TV and film looking for work and not everyone is going to make it. (Not just actors) A lot of the TV studios are moving to Santa Clarita. Many TV shows are already filmed there. Disney is moving a lot of their business up there.

Right now work permits/visas are very hard to get. Unless you have some sort of special skill, they aren't just handing visas out.

Just as a second choice, you may want to consider another area of the U.S. to get a job in T.V. since L.A. is saturated with would be hopefuls. Plenty of other states by the sea that would cost less to live and possibly a better jumping off point for your new career? Build up your resume and then if you still wanted to come here, you would have something to show to better get you in the door. Nepotism is king in L.A.

thank you! Everyone has been very helpful! Do you think Fl. would be a good place? I have family there, but is there a big industry? Not including the recession of course!

A degree in itself will get you a waiting job if you are lucky.
You need to get onto a Masters programme of some sort here and then make contacts do an internship or three, get your face known and then you may have a chance,a slim chance but a chance nevertheless.
