I'm wondering if anyone commutes from Huntington (or surrounding anywhere nearby in OC) into Venice. I am not from here and am exploring a job opp. Note: I would be able to work an earlier or a later shift so I could miss general rush hour. Mapquest is telling me distance....but I really need a better, real estimate of what that would look like on a day to day basis. I know, it's far. Thanks in advance.

I drive from SD to LA once a week in the morning. If you can hit the 405 before 8am, traffic is ok (gets slow like 15-25mph slow when the freeway bends). When you reach the 105, the 405 north really really slows down so a combo of the freeway and surface streets is probably the way to go....Also if you can leave early (like 7) or late (like 9-9:30) you will be better off. I would guess 45-1 hr

Some of the bigger surface roads like PCH 1/Sepulveda/Lincoln can you get into Venice when the 405 sucks

i'd say that it is a 45 minute drive without traffic depending on how close you are to the freeway in huntington. this means that you either head to work before 6am or after 10am. Heading home, you'll need to be on the road before 2pm or you'll probably want to wait until after 7, probably closer to 8. otherwise you're in for some serious traffic on the 405. I once had to be in newport for a wedding rehersal on a friday night at 7. I left my place in santa monica at 5 and got there right at 7. it was a friday evening, but traffic can and will be that bad regularly. traffic on the westside can be absolutely terrible at all hours of the day in all directions, so don't put what i said in stone.
