I was born and raised in Compton, went to Tibby Elementary, Davis Junior High School, and graduated from Compton High in 1985. Some of my family still lives in Compton, and my mother lives in the adjacent city Lynwood, andI am always visiting her and my other family when I drive down there from the INLAND EMPIRE.

I am here to tell you, that I was one of the BLESSED few to be not jumped in a gang or to be shot by the gang bangers who would fight at Compton High School during the day. It was an experience I wouldn't ever forget. But it was an experience that has kept me grounded/humbled so that I don't ever forget where I have come.

I don't diss my city like I see and hear other people do, and I don't like when I hear other people diss Compton, exspecially if they never lived in Compton. But on that same note too, I aint gonna sugar coat my experience and the clear facts about the town I still call home.

I spend a lot of time and money in Compton back in the 70's, I never felt threatened.
But like you say, you have to watch your back, ass and buddies or you die.
Plenty of better places to die.
