Not a desert but a scrub chapparal zone. They might appear similar to an untrained eye but are quite different.

Search for this
Guide to California Climate Zones

and you can see that Santa Clarita is a 9 and the High Desert is a 14.

In keeping with the original theme of this thread... Yes, Valencia is a nice place, one of those enclaves of decency that are here and there in LA county. Most people would still call it desert, shoot, I consider pretty much anything this side of the Rockies desert. If you want anything green, you have to water it. The mountains around are brown for the most part. It is freakin hot right now, stupid hot. There are however, a large number of spectacular days during the year. That 9 to 14 is a big difference. I can grow citrus down here as opposed to the real desert for example. I work in the desert and this was the closest nice area.

Valencia is growing rapidly with Industrial and Commercial buidlings being built. The Valencia Industrial Center, Commerce Center Drive near Hasley Canyon Exit from I-5 and Rye Canyon is being developed. Alot of companies would expand here.

Most of this place we call California is desert. We irrigate all you see. For me I live on the coast so we seldom get the 100 degree weather.

As for living in a cess pool, you guys should visit Tucson, AZ. That is a real dive. An equivalent is with those people that can't afford LA they move to Bakersfield. That is kind of like how it is in the Phoenix area. If they can't afford it there, they move to Tucson. I have nothing against Bakersfield, but it aint no Valencia. Besides in the area is Magic Mountain.

Bakersfield is white trash And yes, Tucson has it as well. Its every where.

Phoenix is just like another LA.Congested and way too much city.
BTW,We dont live IN Tucson,I'm 20 mins away.We enjoy the piece and quiet.I dont have to deal with the crazy am/pm traffic anymore, that i like. The only thing i do miss, is the beautiful tree's.
